Dukagjin, Shkodër, infrastructure investments foster the development of mountain tourism and economic revitalization

The modernization of infrastructure in mountain areas is an important part of their radical transformation, fostering the development of tourism, enabling the social and economic revitalization of all the surrounding villages, making them more accessible to many visitors, but also to the communities that live nearby.

The Dukagjini road, which includes several villages, among them Kir, Nicaj-Shosh, Pepaj, Lotaj, Ndjelysaj, etc., is one of the roads where infrastructure interventions have been necessary to facilitate the daily life of local residents.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited today the Dukagjini area in Shkodër, accompanied by the Mayor of Shkodra Benet Beci, inspecting the works at the open site of the Dukagjini road, an axis that is very important for the completion of the road network of the Alps.

It is a segment of the axis of the Dukagjini road, the second lot for this segment that we have started, of 30 km. The works consist of the widening of the road, the construction of works of art and the construction of an asphalt layer. With the first lot of 17 km, we have started the works and are nearing completion. We anticipate that this axis will be completed within the year!” – explained the engineer, who said that the road is part of the project of the Albanian Development Fund for White Roads.

For his part, Prime Minister Rama appreciated the work done so far, as he discussed with the experts the details of the project “White roads are tourist roads in every corner of the world, it is not necessary to lay anti-frost asphalt on them, but they must be maintained. Austria, Switzerland, Spain, also have snow and frost areas that are kept untouched, but of course they need the maintenance to always be in order. However, at first we will make this a white road, because Beneti won’t let us not do it, then we will continue with the asphalt, of course.” – he said.
